Giovedì ho visitato una galleria a Dulwich. Era l’ultima settimana della mostra di Emily Carr che è un’ importante artista canadese. É nata nel 1871 ed è morta nel 1945. La mostra era una retrospettiva della sua vita.
Emily Carr è importante perché ha dipinto non solo I paesaggi canadesi nel ultimo ventennio del diciannovesimo secolo e la prima metà del ventesimo secolo, ma anche la vita culturale degli indiani nordamericani la quale cambiava rapidamente in questo periodo.
Nella mostra c’ erano quadrii di foreste e di laghi ma anche di totem e canoe della popolazione indiana. Credevo che Emily Carr fosse stata autodidatta ma invece ha frequentato una scuola d’arte e durante la sua vita ha visitato Londra, Paris ecc e conosceva alcuni artisti importanti. Nelle ultime opere si vede l’influenza degli impressionisti ma per me i quadri più bellii sono quelli degli inizi del suo carriera. In quel period ha spesso dipinto alberi e nel suo diario ha scritto molto sulla natura, sul suo continuo movimento e che voleva catture questa sensazione, questa forza vitale.. Per me le prime opera di Emily Carr sono quelle di maggior successo.

On Thursday I went to an art gallery in Dulwich. It was the last week of an show on Emily Carr who is an important Canadian artist. She was born in 1871 and died in 1945. The show was a retrospective of her life. Emily Carr is important because she painted, not only the Canadian landscape in the last part of the 19th and first part of the 20th century, but also the cultural life of the North American Indians which was changing rapidly in this period. I thought Emily Carr was self-taught but in fact she had attended art school and during her life had visited Paris etc. and knew some important artists. In her last paintings one can see the influence of the impressionists but for me her best works were at the beginning of her career. In this period she often painted trees and in her diary she wrote a lot about nature, its continuous movement and that she wanted to capture this sensation, this life force. For me in the early works she has been more successful.
